English Name: Arjun, Botanical Name: Terminalia arjuna, Common Indian Name: अर्जुन
HEART disease is a leading cause of death and disability in world. Arjuna(अर्जुन) supports proper function of heart. Arjun nourishes & supports the heart muscle thereby helps stimulating blood circulation & allowing an increase of oxygen flow to the heart. It has analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. The Arjuna(अर्जुन) is used in Ayurveda(आयुर्वेद) as a treatment for heart disease.
In wounds, hemorrhages and ulcers, applied topically as a powder.
In Ayurveda, Arjun is described as an important cardiotonic herb. Various herbs are used in the Ayurvedic system of medicine for their heart protective actions. These are Arjun (Terminalia arjuna, अर्जुन), Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera, अश्वगंधा), Lasuna (Allium sativum, लहसुन) and Turmeric (Curcuma longa, हल्दी).
The bark is useful as an anti-ischaemic and cardioprotective agent in hypertension and ischaemic heart disease(हृदरोग), especially in disturbed cardiac rhythm, angina or myocardial infarction. Terminalia arjuna(अर्जुन) has been shown to be beneficial for coronary artery disease, heart failure, and possibly for high cholesterol levels. It has also been found to be antibacterial(जीवाणुरोधी) and it protects against cancer(कर्करोग).
The heart protective actions of Arjuna(अर्जुन) are due to its potent antioxidant and cholesterol- reducing activity.
