Why Almonds are Soaked?

Why Almonds are Soaked?

Almonds are a healthy, savory snack, packed with protein, fiber and omega-3 and -6 fatty acids. Almonds are the generation next superfood. Almonds have nutrients like dietary fibres, Vitamin E, omega-3 fatty acids and proteins. All these nutrients make almonds the perfect snack for people who are on a diet. Most people are aware of their health benefits and how to incorporate almonds into a healthy diet, but it is less well known that soaking almonds can unlock more health benefits and make them easier to digest. Soaking almonds increases the amount of nutrients and vitamins your body absorbs from the food, making it a simple and effective way to improve this healthy nut.

Almonds contain an enzyme inhibitor in their brown skin that protects the nut until the proper levels of sunlight and moisture allow it to germinate. Since the nut does not release its enzymes until those conditions have been reached, eating almonds without removing the inhibitor limits the nutrients your body can absorb and makes the almond difficult to digest. By soaking almonds, you provide the moisture that makes the almond shed its skin and release its enzymes. The process works with most nuts and seeds. Thus, soaked almonds are more nutritious than dry ones. Soaking the almonds makes them softer and sweeter. But it is not just about taste. Almonds become easier for the human stomach to digest once they are soaked. Besides, almonds also become easier to chew for little children and older people with weak teeth.
Germinating Almonds or Sprouted almonds:
Germinating Almonds (Sprouted almonds) are even healthier than soaked one. For sprouting almonds, you just have to go one step further. Soak the almonds for overnight and then drain away the water. Store the soaked almonds in a glass jar inside the refrigerator. It will take 3 to 5 days for the almonds to germinate. Even if you want to plant an almond tree, wait for 8 weeks and then you will get sprouted almonds ready for plantation.
